What is Momentous Elite Sleep?
Momentous Elite Sleep is a unique, research-backed formula created to help athletes fall asleep easier and achieve higher quality sleep, thus improving recovery and performance. Momentous Elite Sleep can benefit anyone looking to improve their performance by helping them sleep better and longer.
What Are the Main Ingredients and How Can They Help Me Sleep Better?
Many sleep formulas try to cram in as many ingredients as they can. But with Momentous Elite Sleep, we tapped into the expertise of the dietitians, nutritionists, and other experts on our team to zero in on four evidence-backed ingredients that will improve the quality and duration of your sleep. This way, you’ll get everything you need in a natural sleep aid, and no fillers. Let’s take a quick look at each of these four ingredients and why we included them:
Melatonin (3mg) is the most heavily researched sleep supplement on the market, with scores of studies demonstrating its efficacy in improving slumber for people who usually sleep well and also those 70 million Americans who the CDC says struggle with chronic issues.[i] Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone produced by the pineal gland in the brain that helps you maintain a regular, healthy sleep cycle. Stimuli such as using electronic devices, working or training late, and evening light exposure can disrupt the natural production of melatonin and throw off your sleep-wake cycle. As well as improving your evening routine, taking supplemental melatonin can help restore your normal circadian rhythm.
A study published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism found that taking three milligrams of melatonin nightly for four weeks enabled participants to extend the amount of time they spent in the restorative REM stage.[ii]
Tart Cherry (200mg) is a deep red fruitprized for both its rich taste and the bevy of health benefits that it provides. It’s rich in melatonin and contains tryptophan and anthocyanins, two compounds that may help the body create melatonin and lengthen its effects. The authors of a paper published in the Journal of Medicinal Food wrote that a tart cherry extract “produced significant reductions in insomnia severity” as measured by how many minutes participants spent awake later in the night after they initially fell asleep. They achieved this effect by taking the supplement nightly for two weeks.[iii]
L-Theanine (200mg) is an amino acid that helps ease anxiety, stress, and reduce insomnia. It is found in green, black, and other kinds of tea, but drinking these in the evening poses the problem of caffeine negating the sedative effects of theanine, which is why it is more beneficial to take it as a supplement. When taking regularly, studies show that l-theanine helps you fall asleep faster and easier at bedtime due to its relaxation-boosting abilities. A trial led by scientists from the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry in Tokyo, Japan found that ingesting l-theanine each evening led to a reduction in participants’ sleep quality problems such as how long they took to fall asleep and the number of times they awoke. The l-theanine intervention also decreased their stress-related symptoms and boosted their cognitive function.[v]
Valerian root extract (300mg) is an herb that binds to GABA type A receptors and induces a calming effect by regulating the nervous system. Its name is derived from the Latin verb valere, which means to be strong or healthy. Asian and European countries have been using valerian root since the first century AD to help treat a wide variety of conditions, including sleep disturbance. Several studies have shown that it provides a gentler sedative effect than prescription sleeping pills.
For example, a team of British, Japanese, and Chinese researchers reviewed previously published studies. They found that ten studies concluded that valerian root improved participants’ subjective sleep quality, while a further eight noted that the supplement reduced anxiety. The study’s authors wrote that based on such findings, “valerian could be a safe and useful herb alone and also in combination in treating sleep problems, anxiety, and other comorbidities [the presence of two or more medical conditions in a patient].”[vi]
How is the New Momentous Elite Sleep Formula Different from the Previous Version?
In the first formulation of Momentous Elite Sleep, we included magnesium, melatonin, and wild jujube seeds. As you just read, melatonin is still a key ingredient, and as each tablet contains 1.5 milligrams, it will be easy for you to gradually increase or decrease your dosage in the way that many sleep experts recommend. We added in the three new ingredients in the revised and improved version of Momentous Elite Sleep – valerian root, l-theanine, and tart cherry juice – after careful consultation with our Performance Engineers team and an extensive review of the scientific literature.
My Sport Requires Regular Drug Testing. Is This Product Safe for Me to Take?
Yes. As with the rest of our performance nutrition line – which also includes grass-fed whey and complete plant proteins, creatine, and collagen – Momentous Elite Sleep has successfully passed through the intensive NSF Certified for Sport® and Informed Sport programs. These batch test supplements to make sure they’re truly clean, meaning that they are free from both banned substances and contaminants. Both protocols also give you the peace of mind that Momentous Elite Sleep only contains the ingredients listed on the label in the quantities mentioned. So whether you’re a competitive or recreational athlete looking to recover more fully or just someone seeking a better night’s rest, Momentous Elite Sleep fits the bill.
What’s the Recommended Dose and When Should I Take It?
As with every other product we make, we’ve engineered Momentous Elite Sleep to give you a clinically effective dose of each listed ingredient every time you take it. For this particular product, we suggest taking two pills around 30 minutes before bedtime to make the most of its slumber-promoting benefits.
Whether you’re an athlete looking to maximize the benefits of training or just someone who’s decided to prioritize a good night’s rest, look no further than Momentous Elite Sleep.
