Annie Thorisdottir on Training Through Pregnancy

Annie Thorisdottir is a force in the fitness world. Hailing from Reykjavik, Iceland, the award-winning CrossFit athlete and Momentous ambassador has countless accolades under her belt: She is the first woman to win the CrossFit Games twice (in 2011 and 2012), is a two-time Open worldwide champion (in 2011 and 2015), and a five-time Europe Regional champion (in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2018). Even more impressive: Annie diligently trains and impressively collects medals all while being the ultimate supermom to four-year-old daughter, Freyja, and expecting her second child with long-time partner Frederik Aegidius, due in May. Since announcing her second pregnancy it seems like she hasn’t missed a beat in training, continuing to showcase her workouts on her Instagram. So, what does a typical day in the life of a professional CrossFit athlete and mom consist of—and how has it changed since becoming pregnant? We find out.

Annie's Morning Routine

Like most successful people, Annie’s day begins bright and early at 6:30 a.m. with a balanced breakfast with her daughter. “It’s been the same for a few years,” she says of her morning food spread, which includes three fried eggs and a bowl of oatmeal with raisins and nuts. No morning routine is complete without trusted, high-quality supplements, of course. “I started taking fish oil at six months old,” she says, citing the current mainstay in her daily routine: Momentous Omega-3, which is clinically proven to help support cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and muscle and joint recovery.†

After spending quality time with her daughter in the morning, the four-year-old is taken to daycare, and at 10 a.m., Annie arrives at her gym to train for a few hours, but the daily workout regimen she’s followed when preparing for a big competition has changed since becoming pregnant.

Adjusting Training During Pregnancy

“We found out that I was pregnant, and obviously we had to start adjusting things,” she says. “Now I give my body longer breaks, I’m not trying to get stronger. I’m not trying to get fitter. But I’m just making sure that I am maintaining as much strength as I can. I think overall, it just matters how you take care of your body—how you fuel it and how you treat it.”

At Crossfit Reykjavik, where Annie serves as co-owner, the decorated athlete begins with a warm-up on the stationary bike, where she rides for five to eight minutes before gradually increasing her heart rate. On “the menu,” as she calls it, for the day? “A little bit of everything,” says Annie, whose program consists of deadlifts, squats, and various forms of strength training that target the shoulders, legs, and glutes.

Fueling Workouts

At the gym, Annie takes three Momentous products. For the first half of her workout session, she reaches for Momentous Vital Aminos, which contains 13 amino acids, including all nine essential amino acids, to help support muscle growth and repair. She adds one scoop of Momentous Creatine that features creatine monohydrate, which is considered the gold standard in creatine supplementation for being the purest, least processed form of the single-source ingredient. As for the benefits, clinical research has found that creatine monohydrate has a positive impact on physical performance, lean muscle development, strength, power, and cognitive function.

For the second half of her workout session, and before her 20-minute cooldown on the stationary bike, Annie whips up a quick protein-rich beverage with Momentous Whey Protein Isolate. The bestseller is a stand-out for being grass-fed and cold-processed to preserve its native protein structures. The product also features ProHydrolase® to maximize absorption and promote easy digestion.† As for benefits, each scoop of this fully NSF- and Informed Sport-certified powder supports muscle mass and strength and promotes overall well-being.

Only the Best for the Best

“I’m being very picky with what I use,” Annie says of the supplements she chooses regularly. “I choose grass-fed, no extra things that are in it, so I’m using Momentous. It’s a clean product.”

And she’s right. Momentous meets exceptionally high standards from start to finish. Each product also undergoes third-party testing to provide professional athletes and fitness enthusiasts with a formula that’s of the highest quality, and is clean, safe, effective, and trustworthy. What you see on the label is exactly what you get in every clinically proven serving.

Once Annie finishes up her session, she unwinds and resets with a home-cooked meal. For the CrossFit champion and her family, dinnertime is at 7 p.m., and includes salmon, a medley of broccoli and carrots, and roasted potatoes.

She ends her day with a work call, some mobility work, and tucking her daughter into bed. Lastly, “I snuggle with my man, but you don’t have to be a part of that,” she jokes.
