Change the Ratio

Advancing Women’s Performance Science

Change the Ratio

Only 6% of sports science research focuses exclusively on women. It’s time for change.

The Gender Data Gap
In Sports Science

For decades, sports science research has been built largely on male physiology.

That research has been applied to training protocols, nutrition strategies, and performance tools.

An audit of more than 5,000 studies found that only 6% of sports science research focuses exclusively on women.

It’s time to change the ratio.

Research designed for the female body is essential for women to take their performance to the next level.

When the Science Falls Short, Athletes Pay the Price.

Female physiology is fundamentally different.

Hormonal fluctuations, metabolic responses, and biomechanics all influence training, recovery, and injury risk in ways male-based research doesn’t fully capture.

When science doesn’t reflect these differences, the consequences appear in real outcomes — from higher injury rates to gaps in recovery and fueling strategies.

What Is Change The Ratio?

Change The Ratio is Momentous’ initiative to accelerate research and progress in women’s health and performance science.

Through funding, partnerships, and advocacy, this initiative supports the scientists, institutions, and athletes working to close the research gap and advance performance.

Driving Change through Action

In 2025, Momentous committed $500,000 to support Voice In Sport, an organization dedicated to advancing research, advocacy, and education for female athletes.
In 2026, we are expanding that commitment by partnering with Collective X, contributing $200,000 to fund new research focused on female physiology and performance.

Research Funding

Investing in studies and products focused on female physiology and performance.

Strategic Partnerships

Working with leading experts, institutions, and athlete advocates.

Awareness & Education

Elevating the conversation around female performance science.

Dr. Stacy Sims

Female Athlete Performance Physiologist and Nutrition Scientist

Dr. Stacy Sims is a leading expert in female physiology, exercise science, and nutrition, and a globally recognized advocate for advancing women’s health and performance. Her work focuses on sex differences in training, nutrition, and health — challenging traditional models built on male data and advancing a deeper understanding of female physiology. Through her research, education, and bestselling books, Sims translates complex science into practical, actionable insights that help women train, recover, and perform at their best.

Better Research. Better Tools. Better Performance.

More About Change the Ratio

  • What is Change the Ratio?

Change the Ratio is Momentous’ initiative to accelerate research and progress in women’s health and performance science.

Through research funding, strategic partnerships, and advocacy, the initiative supports the scientists, institutions, and athletes working to close the gender data gap in sport.

By advancing research focused on female physiology, Change the Ratio aims to help build better tools, training strategies, and performance solutions designed specifically for women.

  • Why does women’s performance research matter?

For decades, most sports science research has been conducted primarily on male athletes. This has created a significant data gap in understanding female physiology, performance, and recovery.

Change the Ratio exists to help accelerate the research needed to better understand women’s bodies and improve the tools, strategies, and support systems designed for female athletes.

  • How is Momentous driving progress?

Momentous supports women’s performance science through three key initiatives:

    • Research Funding: Investing in studies focused on female physiology, performance, and recovery.
    • Strategic Partnerships: Collaborating with leading experts, institutions, and organizations advancing women’s sport science.
    • Awareness & Education: Elevating the conversation around female performance science through research, athlete voices, and educational content.
  • What is Momentous’ commitment to Change the Ratio?

Change the Ratio represents a long-term commitment to accelerating the science that supports women in sport and performance.

In 2025, Momentous committed $500,000 to support Voice in Sport, an organization dedicated to advancing research, advocacy, and education for female athletes.

In 2026, Momentous expanded that commitment by partnering with Collective X and contributing $200,000 to fund new research focused on female physiology and performance.

Together, these partnerships help support the work needed to close the research gap and build better performance tools for women.

  • What is the goal of Change the Ratio?

The goal is simple: accelerate research that leads to better understanding of female physiology so athletes, coaches, and practitioners can make more informed decisions about training, recovery, and performance.

By supporting the science, Momentous aims to help create a future where women’s performance is studied, understood, and optimized with the same rigor as men’s.
